Nestled in the medieval village of Torri, approximately 15 km south of Siena, the Cloister of Santa Mustiola Abbeystands as a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany. Established in 1070 by Vallombrosan monks, the abbey became a significant religious and cultural center.
First Level (12th century) : Features eleven arches on each side, supported by slender columns with intricately carved capitals depicting vegetal and zoomorphic motifs.
Second Level (14th century) : Constructed with brick, showcasing arches supported by travertine columns.
Third Level (15th century) : A wooden loggia added to complete the structure.
The cloister's harmonious design and preservation make it a place of contemplation and peace.
Adjacent to the cloister, the church retains Romanesque and Gothic elements, including a stone high altar and a panel painting by Sienese artist Luca di Tommè depicting the Madonna and Child.
