Motrano Hermitage: A Hidden Gem in the Montagnola Senese

The  Motrano Hermitage, also known as  Romitorio di Motrano, is an ancient hermitage located about 1 km northwest of the hamlet of Simignano, in the municipality of Sovicille, Tuscany.  The earliest documentary evidence dates back to 1593, when the hermit Girolamo Savelli from Montalcino mentioned the place in a letter.

Although first documented in the 16th century, the hermitage features architectural elements dating back to the 12th century, suggesting medieval origins.  The structure, now in ruins, harmoniously blends with the surrounding environment, offering an example of religious architecture immersed in nature.

The Motrano Hermitage is a short distance from  Ciao Manu Apartments  and can be reached on foot through nature trails.  It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially during the summer months.
